Is there any way to sort icons in KDE4

Subject says it all.

Oops should have said desktop icons.

The icons in kde4 are displayed how for you?

Are we talking a folder view to a location? In which case the folder should behave much like in File Manager sorting. There is a config device for the folder view widget.

You can add individual ‘icons’ but actually they are widgets. Theoretically they should stay where you drag them to. But this never worked very well in early versions of kde4 (ie; the release version 4.1.3)
But 4.2 and on is much better.
Personally I do not use any desktop icons as there is no need with the features available for desktop config.

I’ve been doing what I have done in KDE3 namely to click on the kmenu icon,
select a program and drag the icon to the desktop. In kde3 I could then
right click on the desktop and sort/align the icons. I’ve looked
everywhere and simply cannot find something comparable in kde4. I can drag
the icons to the desktop but not sort them except manually.

Could you please point me to the location where that is done.

Thanks. With your reply I was finally able to sort out my problem. Just
didn’t fully understand how different kde3 and kde4 were.

A lot of people are asking this. Yes, KDE3 and KDE4 are “almost totally different” experience
The later versions of KDE4 are now trying to bring all KDE3 functionalities so that KDE3 users wont get scared! And, some of those functions are actually “emulated”. For example, the concept of “Desktop” itself is changed.
