Is there any default ID & password for SUSE 11 64 bit as well as 32 bit? I have a problem logging in

I have a problem loging into SUSE 11 64 bit as well as 32 bit. While installing it doent ask me for the ID and password. I tried to install the OS twice…but again it doent asked me anything.

The openSUSE installation has three Major Parts:

1. Installation
    a) Partitioning
    b) Booting Setup
    c) Software To Install
2. User Setup
    a) User Name
    b) User Password
3. Hardware Configuration
    a) Setup Basic Hardware
    b) First time Run, System Update

If you never entered a user name, then you would not have entered a password, and the main software install did not complete. If you did enter a user name, then you missed where you input the password.

Thank You,

Hi ,

During installation it didnt asked me to enter user name…or password…The installation completed and then i roboot , that time it asked me to enter user name , password to log on.
but i dont understand why its asking for user id and password evenif i didnt set it up during installation…

This is the forth time i am installing my SUSE for these reason…and every time i came up with the same thing.

Thanks,
prayas

Make sure you are selecting a new install each time and not an upgrade. Doing an upgrade of a failed install might create such a situation as you are having. Else wise, I don’t really know what would cause this problem.

There is no such thing as openSUSE 11. Perhaps you are using the enterprise
version, SLES or SLED, and in that case, this is the wrong forum.

It is not possible to install openSUSE linux without a password. I don’t
know about SLES/SLED.

Both new install and upgrades would do that. A new install reads the old
install, and reuses the users and passwords, unless you tell it not to. If
you are using the automatics, I think it reads the passwd file by default.

Thus, if the first time you fail to notice the password, following installs
would reuse the same unknown password.

Did you:

  1. get your install image from http://software.opensuse.org/113/en?
    (if not, then where?)

  2. check the md5sum of the downloaded iso?

  3. do this http://tinyurl.com/25ydj4a before install attempt?
