Wallpaper, with a complimentary color scheme for windows decoration, and icons and sound effects inspired thereby, loaded as a set. Is there an app that does this for KDE? It seems like linux gives me more options, but without an important tool to utilize them. I’m sorry to bring a question here that’s probably been asked many times over the last dece, but the likely hits on “theme” and “windows” has overwhelmed my search fu. -GEF

Doesn’t windows just manage this via system settings thru the control panel or by right click to the desktop?
Any way. Linux is not really like windows and it doesn’t pretend to be. But kde ‘System Settings’ will give you access to all you need to manage the wallpaper, the plasma desktop theme, colours, icons and window decor.
Windows lets me save what it calls a “theme” - all settings for system sounds, color scheme, icons, mouse pointers, and of course wallpaper. If I’ve saved multiple sets of these things, I can then reload a set with a single click, and back comes my wallpaper of Babylon 5, together with a pointer that looks like a starfury, and Sheridan’s voice saying “You have committed a fatal error: There’s nothing we can do for you now,” if a program crashes. I get these all at once, instead of having to load system sounds 1-by-1. Of course, in Windows you can edit all of these things individually; the point is that having done so once, you can save the settings to easily reload in the future. KDE already has a use for the the word “theme” which complicates the matter of searching for an answer to my question with Google. -GEF

You can manage all those in KDE (or Gnome)
Once you start customizing a theme from whatever base theme you start from, the system creates a theme called ‘custom’ (at least it does in gnome, I’m not in a kde desktop right now).
In little while I’ll log in to kde and check.
kde, doesn’t that I can see do it like gnome at all.
I honestly don’t do a massive amount of theme setting myself and anything I prefer is setup within minutes post a new install and I don’t usually mess with it after that.
KDE is highly configurable, but I would agree that it could do with a theme manager with a save theme option.
Though if you keep the .kde4 folder from a system that is setup the way you like it. You should be fine.
I keep a regular backup of .kde4 as it’s a problematic area.
