Is there a way to reset boot password?

(I meant root password, ****)

When I installed suse for the first time (2 days ago), i didn’t know what root password was so i left it blank. and since then I haven’t been able to update (getting “User is not permitted: org.freedesktop.packagekit.system-update”) or enter Yast (“su returned with an error”) and i think maybe that’s why.

So is there i way i can fix that?

Thanks.

boot with 1 option . and
passwd

it may work

if you know chrooting in your livecd you can do it easily

or if you have a knopix Live CD

What’s chrooting?

Could you guide me step by step how to do it, please.

Google has a few thousand hits on this as well… as long as you have
physical access (or equivalent) to the box you cannot be stopped.

Good luck.

ramaswamyps, i don’t know what you meant by “boot with 1 option . and
passwd”

And I’ve already googled for a way, but none were for suse.

Okay. I think i did it.
This is what i did:
In Knoppix i went to Menu -> Root Shell -> typed “passwd”
and entered one.

But it hasn’t fixed any of my problems. i still can’t get into Yast. I don’t know whats wrong. could it just be a bug or something?

when the grub comes up there is a kernel option line in the screen just press 1 and enter.
it will boot upto login in console.with #
there you can enter passwd

that is called boot runlevel 1
single user admin mode.
dont startx there.
wait untill unix passwd reset./saved.

THank you so much! Everything is working!
