Is there a screen shot tool in OPENSUSE 12.3?

Hi,
I often use screen shot copy program (Ctrl+P, or Snipper (?) in WIndows 7). With that image file, I can email or storage. Is there a similar tool in OPENSUSE?

Thanks,

Press PrtSc and it will all happen for you

If you use kde it will open a dialogue which is self explanatory
In gnome I think it save the snapshot immediately to your Pictures folder. But you can start the screenshot application from the applications menu and get a similar dialogue to that in kde

The Gimp can also do screen shots (File > Create > Screenshot menu)

Hi
Press the prt sc button? In GNOME there is the gnome-screenshot tool, but you don’t advise what Desktop Environment your using. If your at the console and no desktop there are command line utilities to capture a VT. There is also scrot, and others…

In xfce you have xfce4-screenshooter

In gnome

The application dialogue can be accessed through Alt+F2 ==>
gnome-screenshot --interactive or through Activities(left win key) ==>
type screen

Also shortcuts are
Save screenshots==> Print
Screenshots of active windows==> Alt+Print
To select area(mouse) and then take a screenshot ==> Shif+Print

on KDE/GNOME
If you want to edit/highlight parts of screenshots then use a
specialized tool called shutter.

And then if you like classic cars and vintage wine, there’s always xgrab!

You can even record your desktop: recordmydesktop.

The name of the widget attached to prtscr key (in KDE) is ksnapshot. It is awesome.

So far I haven’t come across a desktop environment which does not have a program which uses PrtSc as a shortcut. They all do it slightly differently but the end result is normally usable in a wide range of contexts.

There is an example at http://bradlug.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/KDE_2000.odp of screenshots taken using KSnapshot from 2000 and from 2011.

But it doesn’t capture the print-screen key :frowning:

Hey, I am using Xfce 4.10 and it is using PrtSc to fire the xfce-screenshooter.

Not here. I have to click on the panel applet to take a photo. You must
have some other application.

I press prnt scrn and xfce screenshooter launches here on openSUSE 12.3. It is set up by default, but allowing it to work if it isn’t set up is as easy as a adding keyboard shortcut in xfce settings. Or do you mean like on Windows where prnt scrn captures the screen to the copy buffer and you can simply paste it into any application?

I mean like gnome, press the print key and the screen is copied and I
get a popup to save it to a file. This is not working in my XFCE
(default settings); and yes, I have “xfce4-screenshooter”, and it
doesn’t have any configuration panel to say yes or no to capture the
keypress.

I have opened keyboard, application shortcuts. Only 3 were present. I
pressed “reset to defaults”, and a dozen appeared, including those of
the print screen key.

Well, you gave me the right hint
