I have a Clevo laptop from 2010’s. OS is Tumbleweed. Soundcard controller is “Intel 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller”. Module is “snd_hda_intel”.
Some days ago I did ‘sudo zypper dup’ which stopped to an alarm: " Can’t find ‘yast2-sound-4.5.0-1.105.x86_64.rpm’ in https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/YaST:/Head/openSUSE_Tumbleweed/". I selected option ‘i’ believing update will just jump over this driver but instead it deleted the original one. I think I should have been ‘locking’ this driver. Now in repository there is ‘yast2-sound-4.5.0-1.120.x86_64.rpm’,
which if installed doesn’t make the soundcard microphone to work.
May be I remember the old rpm name little wrong but at least there was number ‘105’ instead of ‘120’.
Sound card is ok; I tested it in Leap 15.5 which still is installed as ‘backup system’.
Is it safe/possible to install driver from Leap 15.5 repository?
You should not have that repository. It’s the cause of your issues.
Indeed, there seems to be some mess with repositories, where those have
slipped in from, no idea.
But, ‘https://download.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/repo/oss/x86_64/’ doesn’t contain any ‘yast2-sound’.
https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/YaST:/Head/openSUSE_Tumbleweed/x86_64/yast2-sound-4.5.0-1.121.x86_64.rpm doesn’t work in my laptop: it doesn’t show microphone.
May be it is kernel issue?
Luckily I have that Leap 15.5 left so I can work ‘FLdigi’ (radioamateur software).
Thank for your interest.
The YaST sound module got removed already ages ago in factory and Tumbleweed as it is deprecated.
Understood, thank you.
If you are having issues with your sound card or environment) and need help with that, please start a new topic. (YaST not the path to resolution in any case).
