Is openSUSE ownCloud operational -- latest is 42.3

In my ongoing efforts to get degooglized and demicrosoftized, I stumbled across references to openSUSE ownCloud as an alternate to googledrive or dropbox. The newest leap version referenced though is 42.3. Before I make any setup efforts for this, I would ask if this is operational any longer.
If so, is it in use and functioning properly?

thanks, tom kosvic

There is a Community package available (version 8.1.8) for Leap 15.6:

https://software.opensuse.org/package/owncloud

I checked out the ref supplied. The community package for leap 15.6 says "nothing provides ‘php5-ctype’ " needed for install.

I can’t find that package in repos. Will look at rpmfind. But, in any case owncloud did not immediately install.

Take a look on owncloud web site, you will see owncloud infinite scale is the way to go there. For homelab nextcloud is the more vivid cloud solution, nice piece of reading Home instance of NextCloud with Leap Micro 5.4, Leap Micro 5.2 is EOL, Leap 15.5 enters RC the revisions are dated - but the spirit is vivid.
So in regard of “funtioning properly” it is always as don’t bet the lifes of your children but the life of your mother in law is o.k. I think so. :grinning:

Owncloud client is in the openSUSE OSS repo. The server is available up to Leap 15.5 directly from Owncloud repo
https://download.owncloud.com/

The URLs can be easily abstracted from the wiki:

Thanks for the responses. I can see answer to my one question: Does any one use it?

Ans: No

thanks, tom kosvic

My system has php7-ctype installed and php8 is also available. php5 requirement says something about how current this app is.

You get the latest server 30.0.04, it’s php8.3

Unfortunately the guy wo recommended the owncloud home repo, did not even care to check it. It serves a 8 years old version…

yes, your php ref is toward it’s use in nextcloud. My query was about trying owncloud that seems very out of date.

Take a look here on owncloud website:

I just discovered that my proton email includes “proton drive” that I have already paid for. Should be a google drive alternative. I wish to table this discussion as my problem should be solved by proton.
