Is nvidia-open-driver-G07-signed-kmp-meta necessary

Updating nvidia drivers was not possible because
nvidia-open-driver-G07-signed-kmp-meta
is still at 595.71, whereas other packages woild go to 595.80.

It was proposed to deinstall nvidia-open-driver-G07-signed-kmp-meta.
Would that be safe? is the package really not needed?

nvidia-open-driver-G07-signed-kmp-meta ensures that all needed packages have matching versions. It is not strictly needed, but without it you have to check manually that every package matches.
But nvidia-open-driver-G07-signed-kmp-meta-595.71.05-lp160.19.1 should allow upgrading to the 595.80 series if all needed 595.80 packages exist, so can you show the complete command and error?

That is what happens on Tumbleweed, but on Leap dependencies are different so a bug report might be needed.
Sorry, I don’t have matching HW so I cannot test for sure.

FWIW, I removed the nvidia-open-driver-G07-signed-kmp-meta package and locked, then could update, but this was awhile back…

nvidia packages in myrlyn

conflict:

The nvidia-*-kmp-meta packages are the bracket that are holding a matching set of nvidia* packages together via dependencies. IIRC you technically can install your NVidia setup without it, but chances are that this will end up in a non-functional setup, falling back to the Nouveau driver instead because the NVidia kernel module failed to load.

@shundhammer It’s just plain broken…

Looks like it is solved, the meta package is now upgraded tot 595.80 as well.
