When I am using Banshee, if I press Quit, it stops playing and closes. If I hit Close, the player disappears but the music keeps playing. If I have the player on and use the Close prompt in the tray at the bottom of the screen, the player again disappears, but the music continues. If I hit the “X” in the top right hand corner of the player, the player closes, but the music continues. Is Banshee supposed to work like this, or is there a problem? I would expect to be able to quit when using the “X” and the “Close” prompt in the tray.
Yes, that is by design. Clicking the “x” (or “Close” in the file menu) will reduce it to an icon in the tray. The shortcut to quit Banshee is CRTL + Q, or you can do this from the file menu.
I always have trouble remembering which ones close to the System Tray and which ones close out completely (and stop playing). Irks the heck out of me until I get it down pat (and until the next time I re-install and have to remember what that one does)
Oddly, my Control + Q prompt doesn’t work! Any thoughts on what I might have to tweak?
As far as I know, that should kill the application in the active window in Gnome or KDE. I’m not sure about Xfce. Which desktop environment are you in?
I am currently using Gnome.

And so I thought
You can restore the “sanity” to Banshee by going to plugins and enable the
one that allows Banshee to “quit on Close”.

Sounds like a great idea, but where do I find Plug ins?

Go to Edit / Preferences / Extensions and disable “Notafication area icon”.
Then test it
