Is libvirt (qemu/kvm) virtual machine really running wayland?

I have installed several linux’ as libvirt (qemu/kvm) virtual machines. Several of the desktops I have installed in these linux vms have both an Xorg and a wayland version, e.g., gnome and kde. Running the wayland version seems to run fine but am I really using wayland in choosing these options in vms if the real machine is running xorg and the nvidia proprietary drivers?

I have hosed my machine so often with display problems (related to proprietary nvidia drivers) leading to excrutiating reinstalls and as a result I am nervous to try wayland on the actual machine. I am using the proprietary nvidia drivers on the actual machine after multiple reinstalls.

Are these vm really using wayland with the nvidia drivers or are there some qemu/kvm video drivers overriding such that in reality nvidia and xorg drivers on the actual machine are being used? Is this a valid test that wayland will run with nvidia drivers on my actual machine?

thanks for any insights. tom kosvic
