I’m running OpenSUSE11.3 64bits with KDE 4.4.4 (release 3).
Is it safe to upgrade to KDE4.6?
Is KDE 4.5 better/more stable than 4.6?
Why is both 4.5 and 4.6 developed? Why not go for one version?
I am running KDE 4.6 fine here. Everything is running well. One thing I needed to do was change the Phonon backend back from GStreamer to Xine. openSUSE 11.4 is coming out soon and will come KDE 4.6. AFAIK there are still a few bugs here and there with 4.6 like with the fish protocol not working in Dolphin. As for stability I haven’t noticed much difference between 4.5 and 4.6 but I found 4.6 to be faster (KWin seems quite a bit faster)

I see you mention KWin. I use Compiz. Will Compiz be a problem?
I am not sure about Compiz sorry 
- I have never tried it on KDE (Only used it when I used to use GNOME)
