Yesterday, i ran update applet to update some X11 drivers, after updating it asks me to send some data to smolts.org for the device drivers.

Looks like a good move.
smolts collects hardware info so that driver development teams can concentrate on most widely used hardware.
smolt was added in 11.1, keeping the ID could let you reference the profile in Bugzilla.
Don’t think very much is actually done with the data to inform the project. Waiting for ppl to accept the update, in month following release, isn’t a viable strategy for collecting comprehensive stats.
At smolts.org there doesn’t seem to be a way to pick out oS-11.2 stats from the rest which limits it’s usefulness to community.
