is 11.1 outdated?

i’ve used 11.1 Gnome when it first came out,the question is,should i return back to Opensuse now,or just wait for 11.2 to come out

PS:i don’t want to use factory,i can’t afford having crashes when i’m using my computer

thanks in advance

many people think that it should be used more old version I now many people who used 10.3

if you update gnome and have a problems with it, I suggest you back to original 11.1 gnome version.

factory you can run from virtual machine to test

i’m not talking about the stability of 11.1,i’m sure it’s stable enough already

i’m talking about the packages in the distro, are they up to-date enough?

Outdated is a relative term; most distros will have new versions this autumn - there isn’t that much difference among the last crop of distros including openSUSE.

very strange question… should return back from what?

if you used it why you did not know if they up to-date?

i have gnome 2.24

the last release of gnome is 2.26

nobody can list you all the programs is they up-to day or not?

inkscape for examle is up to day for now but in some day it could be not

> are they up to-date enough?

as for me… yes they are

Compared to what?

And you said:

i can’t afford having crashes when i’m using my computer

So then, surely enough said.
You are using the most recent release from openSUSE - updated. What more do you want?

Compared to what?

compared to the packages that are being released everyday,of course

you know they sometimes don’t include a certain package in the current release to include it in the next

i’m asking because of that reason,is there such a package in opensuse 11.1?

very strange question… should return back from what?

i’m currently dualbooting Vista(for gaming) and Ubuntu 9.04

I’m not a gnome user, but you should be fine using the gnome build service.
eg; Index of /repositories/GNOME:/STABLE:/2.26/openSUSE_11.1

I have always used the kde equivalent to that from the build service. Never had any trouble.

That way you keep more up to date. However, the development version packages, though much more current, are not stable enough for you.

i sort of know that already

thanks for your help anyway

the most helpful post so far, specially the repos link

for example,is firefox 3.5 included yet in the repos?

I don’t think we will get Firefox 3.5 via the official update repository, but you can install it yourself by using this repository.

Index of /repositories/mozilla/openSUSE_11.1

))) ROTFL
the men is want stability and want to use beta browser?

I also not recommend with such kind of question update opensue 11.1 to gnome 2.26 from gnome-repo
updating gnome from repo is not same as update KDE

more usefull will be milestone 3
also you can get gnome 2.28 out of a box

okay,thanks a lot guys

i’ll download openSUSE today

i’ll be using GNOME for now,do i download the liveCD right away,or is the DVD version better?

firefox 3.5 is no longer beta, the final was released days ago

Sorry to say…but i m not agree here.
I used/using Ubuntu 9.04(in office), and the PHP version is 5.2.6 and in openSUSE its 5.2.9. Same goes with Mysql.
This is just to mention here, their are a lot more to list it down…another example is VLC.
openSUSE provide more updated packages than Ubuntu. I checked most of the versions between many distros, simply to say, openSUSE rocks in all.

CD or DVD is totally your choice. I myself use LIVE CD.
Better to use KDE…

oops i miss this  thank you for information

i have the KDE liveCD now,i tried to install it but there was an error during the installation, and it didn’t even boot afterwards

It’s a well established fact that the DVD is a better choice. I always use it. But hey, maybe I don’t know what I’m on about.

i have that feeling as well
