Hi!
I’m having a weird issue with my system that I can’t pin down and I’m looking for any advice on how to continue debugging.
The system’s a Dell Optiplex 745 with a ATI Radeon X600 (RV380 PCI-E) card and a Samsung SyncMaster 245T, connected via DVI.
Recently, I upgraded from 11.0 to 11.3 (fresh install) and I had to realize that
a) I have to boot with nomodeset to get the automatic configuration of X working (I’m using gnome)
b) I can’t use the ATI driver anymore (without major fussing around) because ATI considers my card too old. So currently I’m using the radeon driver.
Now every once in a while (sometimes twice in 5 hours, sometimes twice in 10 seconds) the screen goes black and immediately comes back again (with the screen displaying a message indicating it’s (now) using the DVI port, dunno why).
I watched /var/log/Xorg.*.log and /var/log/messages for a while until this happened, but nothing whatsoever in these logs that would get me started. Nothing I can identify as coming from the graphics card/screen/whatever. (In fact, when the screen goes black the logs don’t change at all.)
I already tried disabling the desktop effects and screensaver, to no avail. Any hints on what else I might do?
