Hello, I have recently installed openSUSE 11 after hearing that it should support my wireless card (ipw3945) out of the box. However I have experienced some problems getting it to connect to my wireless network. I have configured the card in YaST’s network manager, and all seems well. But it doesn’t seem to connect to my network at all, And does not detect any wireless networks at all from what I can see. Can anyone offer any insight onto how I may get around this problem?
Try this: Click on ‘search’ at top of this page. Then, click on ‘advanced search’.
Under keywords, enter ‘3945’ (without the quotes). Under that click on
‘Search entire posts’ and change it to ‘Search titles only’. Finally, down
at bottom click on ‘search now’ button.
Voila…all the people who had problems alot like yours.
Cheers…

Not a problem at all. As you can see, you are in the majority. Something
about human nature to just ask, when they first get to a forum that starts
out as a ‘strange new world’ until one learns the ropes.
My apology right back, for my offhand parenthetical remark.
Since I know nothing about the specifics of an ipw3945, I first did
that same search to start to learn how others solved it, then realized
I could just send you down that same trail.
Welcome to the forum. May your experience here be a Linux-learning
adventure.
After searching, I did come across a solution. To anyone in the same situation I was, and to save you a search through the mountains of posts on these forums, I simple installed the “compat-wireless” package. A very handy RPM (the one I used) can be found here. Thanks!
