a friend of mine had their windows drive f*ck up, and basically they have a load of photos on their ipod nano which they want to get back off (readable as .jpeg). i put the ipod into my linux machine (suse 11.1) and it came up, mounted fine etc, but when i go into the photos folder the pictures are not there, they are basically all contained within a few files (must be the way it makes a database…?)
anyway…to cut a long story short, was wondering is it possible to pull the individual files off it? any particular software i need?
i tried gtkpod but it seems only to sort the music side of things out, and not photos unless i’m doing something wrong…but i can’t find anything on there …?)
hmmm this is annoying! cheers for suggestion andy, any more suggestions welcome
right, floola linux is installed, but it detects it as a 4GB ipod nano, not the 8GB ipod nano. it also says selecting the wrong generation can cause data loss (which i really really can’t afford!) but the 8GB nano is not in the selectable drop down menu, so i can’t choose it obviously. would picking the later 4GB version cause data loss? i’ve asked on the floola forum, but nobody has replied and i think it’s a very small forum.
and then can always email the developer in good conscience;
EDIT:
actually, I see someone has replied to you on the Floola; seems to know what he is talking about; maybe you keep working with him, but tell us later how it all goes
the ipod was the right generation and floola see all the pictures. however, if i click to view the picture (which shows up fine in the thumbnails…) the screen goes blank (white). if i say ‘copy pictures to /home/desktop/pictures’ it says copying… then done. i click on the folder, and all the pictures are just white squares :\ this is annoying since i can see the pics perfectly fine in the thumbnails!!! i have emailed the developer…but no-one here knows anything about it do they? am i doing anything wrong?
don’t you just hate it when programmes don’t work straight away?
we would all just love it if they did;
Why don’t you keep chatting to Sid32 on the Floola; seems like the sort of guy likes helping; he would really love to get the ipod going for you I am sure;
that’s where the money is: floola forums; zip over there
