My ma’s ipod is screwing up major. I have tried the reset (center button and MENU) and then tried to repair it with itunes on a windows machine. The restores go through and the problem remains the same. It just restarts it self over and over again. I then tried the reset and disk menu (center button and play/pause button) this ended up being useless.
So I brought the ipod over to my linux machine and i figure i will just reformat the ipod completely! it is dev/sdb I am trying to use the graphical partitioner in the gnome desktop. As soon as I click on it I get a crash with this as the output.
YaST got signal 11 at YCP file partitioning/ep-hd.ycp:274
/sbin/yast2: line 454: 11181 Segmentation fault $ybindir/y2base $module "$@" "$SELECTED_GUI" $Y2_GEOMETRY $Y2UI_ARGS
Anyone got a clue on what to do? I really want to try to fix this anyway possible. I don’t care if I have to format the whole ipod and then find a way to add the ipod OS back on it(what I was doing but am unsure of how to get the ipod OS back on it). Or repair the problem somehow.
Any help is much appreciated I do not want to have to purchase a new one.
PS. I am on a 64 bit openSUSE 11.2 machine with gnome desktop.

my free advice: find an experienced, authorized iPod repair
person/center and take it to them…BEFORE you turn it into a
doorstop/brick (if you have not already)…
at the VERY least, find a forum FULL of iPod experts…
and STOP trying everything you can think of to fix it yourself because
there are things findable via google that just might be useful to you,
like this:
which is just a simple search using YOUR words
“ipod classic” restarts itself over and over]
to see if anyone else in the universe has ever faced this before…
free advice #2: do NOT just start at the top of that list and try
everything you come to! instead read several of them, the more you
read he better your idea of what might work and what might not…
and, unless your mom saw it go from working to borked while IN her
hands, and BEFORE you touched it, you gonna be sorry!!
well that happened to be the most useless reply i have ever seen. if i wanted to take it to a ipod repair/dealer i would not have made this post.
i have gone through all those links and used google to look up the exact same thing. i am not retarded, how about you look at links you sent me through google? almost everyone is a link to a forum thread were everyone just says “yeah it is happening to mine too” and no answers/solutions. (also there is a link to this post) next time find a useful link.
i am helping my ma fix her ipod, i don’t own or use one. this is not a help me before my mom finds out thread.
the main thing is that the partitioner is crashing and putting out an error code when i am trying to view it through the gui.
your free advice is as worthless as a 20 foot razor-blade slide that lands into a pool of alcohol.
ps- putting emphasis on SOME letter to TRY and make me feel stupid make YOU look like an ASS. have a nice day
