Hi,
the problem: the external hd mounts but i can’t open the folder. When i tried to open it, all the applications blocked and when i unplugged the HD, everything was back normal. But the weird thing is that i have already been able to read the folder once or twice. It just depends on the moment…
Version of openSUSE?
Desktop type; Kde or Gnome?
Partitioning format of the external HD
Error messages??
openSUSE 11.1 with KDE4 and it’s a vfat, there were no error messages at all…
Is the drive also used in windows?
If yes. Boot to windows and ‘safely remove’
Try again in SUSE.
it has been used in windows but that is months ago…
So are you saying it’s been performing fine until now?
Yes, in windows it worked perfect, but in linux i just can’t open the folder to my external hd, it does mount but i can’t acces it.
With the drive connected
Open a terminal and become su and do this
fdisk -l
post result
Disk /dev/sdb: 1000.2 GB, 1000204886016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 121601 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk identifier: 0xea79b6a5
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdb1 1 121601 976760001 b W95 FAT32
this is what i get, and it seems quiet normal to me…
Are you able to try it in windows?
Do you have something like Parted Magic to see it behaves different in there? Or another live cd, any distro would do.
i’ve tried it on my brother’s vista and it worked properly but i haven’t tried it on another distro
oke, now it does work, after removing safely from windows but i don’t know whether this is one of the lucky times or that it’s fixed.
okee, thank you very much!
