Internet tracking

Is there a good way to set up internet tracking on an openSUSE 11.3 computer? I don’t want users visiting porn sites or any other nonsense, and if they do, I want to know about it.

Is there a good program that the administrator can set up to report this kind of thing or at least track it? Obviously, this would need to track all websites visited regardless of the application/browser used, and would need to be completely inaccessible to users. I don’t want them having the ability to turn it off or circumvent it somehow.

Thanks for the help.

Can’t you set this detail in your router?

Normal technique is to block outgoing HTTP access at the router and then provide a web proxy (e.g. squid) that all browsing has to go through. You should be able to find a heap of tutes on setting up squid.

I’ve never explored doing it through my router. I’ll look into that and research squid.

Many routers have keyword blocking at the very least. You just add key words Eg; xxx, porn,
or IP addresses

You can usually leave a master IP that has full access

WOW? your intent to force your filters on others indicates to me that
you do not actually subscribe to the words of your signature–or, did
i miss something in here:

think about it…and, while you do recognize that a teenaged boy (or
girl) will find a way around your attempts to control their net,
and life…

very true…you (and Grassman20) can, if you wish, drive them off the
“information superhighway” you provide/control…and into the streets
of wifi, web cafes, friend’s connections, public APs etc etc etc…

If they’re hell-bent on whatever it is, sure, nothing will keep them
from it. If not and if we make it slightly different, they might give
up and do something else.
