I just installed opensuse 11.3. I tried to connect to the internet using mozilla. My first try was successful but when I was trying to get updates, my connection was lost. The PCs (Windows) connected to the router were still able to access the internet so I assume the problem is on my machine.
Are you saying that during updates the machine lost internet or was it powered down accidentally?
But now, you have no internet?
Normally, just loosing the connection is not fatal and all you need do is restart the procedure that was ended. I lost a connection recently, but I just left it and when it came back online the update resumed eventually.
My laptop with opensuse still can’t connect to the internet though the network icon says it is connected. When I open mozilla, It only says “Looking up www.opensuse.org” I’m using a laptop with windows installed in it in accessing this forum.
But you didn’t actually answer my question.
Are we talking wireless or wired?

if your connection is wireless, please switch to that forum and read
all three of the stickies at the top of the forum…
if you connection is wireless, please try again after disabling IPv6:
when the first green screen comes up, just start typing
ipv6.disable=1
and in firefox type:
about:config
in the address bar, press enter then search for
disable ipv6
Double click to set value to true if currently set to false.
if that works for you then you can make the boot option happen
automatically by adding
ipv6.disable=1
at the end of the kernel line used in /boot/grub/menu.lst
