Internet don/t work evan manny tests are ok!!!In suse 11.3

My SuSE friends,

I have a problem with the internet in SuSE 11.3.

So :1)IPV6 is disabled,checked already in menu.lst,
:2)Network manager yes in etc/sysconfig/network/config and no firewall
:3)DNS numbers right wrote in etc/resolv.conf
:Network manager informs me :conected and shows me all right data
:I have trafic sending receiving bytes
:checked the IP with ping ,ok
:traceroute ok,netstat ok,routing ok
:but lookup and whois don’t work from network tools
I tried with yast putting there :Ip,gateway, subnet mask, dns server

the similar situation as above but no internet acces.

No internet ,no e-mail access (i used in 11.2 evolution,I like more than Kmail)

S0 ,I know somewhere is something wrong.

Could someone advice me how to make a right configuration for internet?using right steps? And could someone to give me a advice where in which files shoul I look?

By the way I installed SuSE 11.3 in the PC from home and I HAve NO Problem!
BUt in my laptop I installed the same version SuSE 11.3 and the internet don’t work!

why for two(2) PC/desktop-laptop I have this unusual diffrenece?

Is it more difficult to connect a laptop to internet than a desktop?why?

**And ,please be sure ,that I tried 3 days for my laptop to connect comparing with desktop (10 minutes)!!!

**And I did all I know to solve the problem till I request your help!

Which error do you get from whois? Can you please post output from the
traceroute that you did.

How does this manifest itself? I.e. what do you mean by “no internet” -
above you said that ping and traceroute are ok.

Well, what is the difference between your home PC and your laptop? (with
respect to how they connect to the internet).

No.

When you say that traceroute, etcwork, you do have internt access. Check this e.g. by using your browser to go to http://130.57.4.15. When that succeeds you have connection to all of the Internet.

What seems to fail is name resultion (DNS). Now you say that /etc/resolv.conf is correct. But there are cases known here where there is a problem there.
When you are using DHCP, try removing the entries from /etc/resolv .conf and connect anew. Maybe this helps.

Another one is using 8.8.8.8 (Googles DNS server) instead of what you have.

THANK YOU!I am going to check your solutions.

Dear Henk van Velden,

It’s a real madness!

I removed data from /etc/resolv.conf (I deleted all nameserver ) and it’s working.Oh my God!

thank you for your ideas.

And before of that I inserted in firefox the “http://130.57.4.15” and it was working for short time(without following the links after).

But the solution with erasing nameserver from /etc/resolv.conf really is working.

see you and good luck!

now I am going to set up my e-mail access.uhhhhh… very good advice you have given for me

Or use command netconfig update -f

You are welcome. The advice given only originated from the fact that reading a lot of threads in the forums here, I remembered having seen this earlier. It must have been several times else it would not have been a post-it in my memory

It is a bug of course, but this bypass solves it and I think it is repaired in future releases.
