i have dual boot windows & opensuse 11.1 setup. has been working fine till today. i tried to connect to internet like always but system woul not connect. checked all parameters & all seemed ok. booted into windows & connected without a problem. waited 15 minutes & then suse connected ok again. any ideas on this???

many thanks

I have no idea what is causing it but i also have that problem sometimes. Tell me how are You connecting with Your ISP? I’m connecting with a DHCP (i don’t always get the same ip as i’m behind a NAT so i got like 50 people in my subnet :)), maybe it’s a same IP issue(it shouldn’t exist at all as the ip is given by a server so it should know which ip it should give to whom ). Anyways i also have it sometimes but VERY VERY rarely.

i connect via cable & i think DHCP also, but i am new to this so not sure. i would think tho if suse has problem that windows would also. it must use same connection process… windows has NEVER given me a problem…

Try shutting down (power off) your windows before starting openSUSE sometimes windows hogs the connection

I don’t think it’s Windows, i don’t run Windows at all and sometimes have that issue BUT to confirm that we would need some logs:) If that happens to me (sometimes its my ISP’s fault as its wireless:’( but not 3G) then i’ll search the logs and find the cause till i drop dead;) I have a thought, could it be somehow connected with a DHCP lease??

sorry, but being a noob i am not familiar with where logs are or which one to get. also how to post log to this forum.

many thanks
