Internet connection issue while using nvidia driver

Hi,
it’s hard to believe, but I am experiencing issues with my internet connection while the nvidia driver is in use (I’ve tried 180.51 and 185.18.14). I am sure of that.
The problem exist on Acer 5738ZG laptop with G105M card. I am using ADSL modem and pppoatm.

The problem starts after few minutes - the connection becomes very slow - it is impossible to browse sites, and for few times system stopped respondig while using firefox :frowning:

Could anyone help me?

have you done this
Disable IPv6 - openSUSE Forums

reboot required

Hello,
Thank You for reply, I will try this, but I am wondering, why everything works well with “nv” driver? It is very strange for me. Only with “nvidia” driver I am experiencing problems.

No idea. i can’t really see it being related, but try IPv6 off and then use whatever works best.

I’ve tested this, but see, that the problem isn’t connected with IPv6.
Could this be associated with Amarok or maybe some library from KDE4? I’ve noticed, that the problem with connection occurs, when I am running amarok.

Beagle, beagle, beagle (Ooops said it three times )

Have you got beagle running by any chance and maybe the beagle plugin?

If ya don`t need it then destroy, exterminate.

Maybe a bit over the top there but just check that it is not hogging your
system when the slowdown occurs also strigi, kerry any bl00dy search thing.

Hi,
beagle deleted just after installatioon, strigi etc. disabled.

I am sure, that the problem is connected with amarok (and ONLY with nvidia driver loaded), but the question is … how?
When I am closing amarok, everything goes back working (but the connection is slower than usual.

Can you monitor your net usage with something?

Even something like a simple plasmoid just to see if any app is d/loading or
uploading stuff in the background and hogging the bandwidth?

You could use netstat in a console to see where your connections are even.

Or use a sniffer to watch your traffic.

HTH

I might be drifting off the topic though if it is connected to the Nvidia
driver so could be going down a dead end here but is worth a shot.

I checked the traffic via KNemo - the connection while listening music just freeze (the highest peak is about 3 KB). Now I am testing banshee to see whether this is connected with amarok or maybe some library.

Thanks for advices.

Thread still unsolved :frowning:

I spent some time searching for the reason of connection problem. I’ve installed the opensuse 11.1 on other partition and found, that everything worked until I’ve updated the system (from “update repo” and gnome to factory).
I noticed, that problem is independent from desktop environment and from audio player / engine (I was using xine and mplayer).

Any help and suggestions would be appreciated

Maybe a kernel issue. Try rolling back the kernel. Just go back to the original release see if works wit that first. Then you can think about going forward one at a time.
Find the kernel in software management, go to the versions tab lower down the screen and select the radio for the oldest - it’s the last in the list
