It seems to be an issue on Asus as I have another Asus laptop (Intel) where the mic also does not work under TW but it does work on the Lenovo Ideapad I also have.
I wonder what the difference is between Ubuntu and TW in this case.
Some ASUS laptops come (or did come) with Ubuntu pre-installed and in general ASUS computers come with Ubuntu secure keys pre-installed, so they have some sort of relationship and maybe Ubuntu includes some ASUS-specific tweaks.
Found something interesting. Check dmidecode -t baseboard and note:
Base Board Information
Manufacturer: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC.
Product Name: <your model here>
Then check if your model is included in this lookup table.
There is a bunch of "Lenovo"s but not so many ASUSes… which might explain why Ideapads work…
I bet your model is not in the table; maybe Ubuntu added a few ASUS models in their kernel, but I cannot say.
If you dare to edit and rebuild that kernel module yourself you might fix the problem with little effort. If not so, ask here and wait for somebody to help.
