Intermittent absence of Sound in vlc player... Please help

I am experiencing a very strange problem in vlc player. At times there is no sound in vlc player. But when I reboot openSUSE, and play the same movie file the sound is very much heard.
But again after some time the same movie plays with absent sound.
What can be the reason for this?
The same files play well in smplayer…
Please help me…

I noticed the same problem, the sounds comes after like 20 minutes. Not sure why only on vlc. All the other players I have (5-6) are working fine.I found a ticket for something like this on the videolan.org site(Ticket#6395). I’ll post once I find my way of reporting it so you can add your comments there also.

I too had the same problem, solved it this way:
Open up VLC settings, check “show all”, go to sound>Outputmodules>ALSA, the ALSA device name dialog has a drop down box, probably it’s set to “Standard”, was so on my system. Change it to what you actually use and save, solved the problem for me.

Please post output of

zypper lr -d

I’ve seen this as a result of a mixture of packages from the videolan repo and Packman.

Here is the output

Nothing wrong with the repos. Check hank_se’s option

Thanks to all of you for your precious time…
I changed both the options in “Output module” and “Device” in Audio settings.

Strange enough it works for me now. I restarted the computer but not sure if I did a refresh of some updates or not before. Any way it works now.(by the way I was not able to find a way to log a ticket on vlc site, very cumbersome ticket handling wiki)
