Can we assume you have working ethernet?
If you have click this:
http://packman.links2linux.de/install/broadcom-wl
If once you install this, reboot…
Otherwise let us know what you have.
This is definitely NOT an Intel/PRO 2200.
Ummm. Yep, I know…

With a 4311, you would be better off using
sudo /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware
If you use the wl driver, then no one can help you with further problems.
B43 is open source.
With a 4311, you would be better off using
Larry. This works OK then in 11.2?
Yet my 4312 doesn’t. Only with wl or a newer kernel.

Yes. The 4311 works with kernels 2.6.24 and later. The 4312 with 2.6.32 or
later.
yeah i get that now, i just got this laptop. I did not know what it had in it. I am sorry for the confusion. I did install the packman repositories and it worked until i rebooted. It has both myself and my father (who is an avid linux user) stumped. I had installed the packages for broadcom after i realized that i was mislead about the brand of WLAN i had LOL. But as i said, after i rebooted, i was yet again wireless less!! I have tried to update the packages that i installed, still to no avail. At one point in time i had the option to choose to “enable” or “disable” my wireless connection via the manage network tool. But now nothing.
How do i fix this one?

Did you see my note about installing the firmware for b43? If you do that,
it will work right away.
Among the problems with the wl package is that you need to blacklist the
real, built-in drivers in order to use the out-of-kernel driver wl. In
addition, it will break every time you get an upgraded kernel installed,
while b43 will get upgraded along with the new kernel.
In case you cannot find it, make a connection with wl or with your wired
device and enter the following:
sudo /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware
Once you do that step, your wireless device will “just work”.
where do i enter the code at? As i said previous, I am new to this. I am wanting to learn everything about this program, it just takes time.
ok i ran the code in terminal, downloaded the files, tested the wireless, still nothing. I restarted, uninstalled everything that i had previously installed, can we start this from the beginning? i am just tempted to do a fresh install and start all the way over. Would this be a better thing to do then just sit here and fiddle fart around with it at this point?

Whenever you are given a command, that is used in a console or terminal.
You can start one from the KDE main menu. I don’t use Gnome enough to
remember, but it is one of the menu items.
I GOT IT!!! I uninstalled everything, reinstalled it, ran the command you gave me, threw in a little mojo, and bam, it worked!!! I have restarted twice since then and have seen that as long as i run it in the “default” mode, it works, any other and it does not work, other then XEN. Which do you prefer to run it in and why? I use the KDE version of SUSE. I have the GNOME as well, but have yet to try it. I do appreciate the effort you have given this and the patience with a “NEWB” to this.

You should run the default kernel, which is what I think you mean by
default mode.
Good to know you sorted this, after I threw a spanner in the works.:shame:
I made a note of Larry’s comments so I can refer back.
Not sure why you have Xen, it’s a pain.
Default kernel
kde or gnome are both great desktops
Alright got it going I see .
It is hard to administer even to Linux box over the phone .
Keep at it , openSUSE is a great distro , if you can kick the Micro$oft habit you will enjoy it .
