I’d like to buy a new laptop with an integrated grafic card.
Which one is better supported: Intel or Amd?
What about the integrated card AMD Radeon™?
Hi
Both work fine here desktop (intel, amd and nvidia on Tumbleweed) and laptops with intel and single and dual amd gpu running Leap (but GCN 2 and 3 cards). Support for newer AMD (eg renoir) might have to wait for Leap 15.3 for better support.
Perhaps details of some of the laptops your looking at?
Thanks for the answer.
This one looks good: HP ProBook 455 G7 Notebook.
Hi
Not had issues with ProBooks, this has the AMD Ryzen 5 4500U APU? If so, wait for other Forum users will share experiences…
Yes.
To be more accurate:
AMD Ryzen™ 7 4700U APU with Radeon™ Graphics (2 GHz base clock, up to 4.1 GHz max boost clock, 8 MB L3 cache, 8 cores); or AMD Ryzen™ 54500U APU with Radeon™ Graphics (2.3 GHz base clock, up to 4 GHz max boost clock, 8 MB L3 cache, 6 cores);
AMD APUs are good, but not for GPGPU/OpenCL.
For OpenCL you need Intel or Nvidia. I.e. not single integrated AMD GPU & not dual AMD integrated + AMD discrete.
Possibly Leap 15.2 & 15.3 will stuck with 5.10.15-1 kernel-syms and kernel-default-devel packages, not newer:

I need the pc only for office work (not for games or complicated graphic tasks).
Hi
Then either should be fine with amdgpu oss driver… search forum posts (advanced search, top right) for ryzen 5 and ryzen 7.
No AMD expert here, but I saw recent posts about recent Ryzens 5 and 7 needing a recent kernel, so be prepared to use Tumbleweed for a few months until Leap catches up.
Intel developers are faster to offer support in Linux, so that might be more conservative.
Best option is to download a live iso and make sure that it works on a similar notebook, if you have that chance.
Check models which fit your needs and work well with a live system on a stick. Make sure to test thoroughly, especially whether suspend is working correctly. When buying online you always may undo your purchase in case of malfunction.
AMD Ryzen 7 4700U or AMD Ryzen 5 4500U APU = AMD Renoir family.
First support in Linux kernel 5.4, improved in 5.8+.
ILL we need Leap + new kernel from kernel:stable or TW for AMD Renoir.
Maybe there will be patches for Leap 15.3.
Try Leap 15.3 or Leap 15.2 with kernels from these repos:
