Hi,
i have an Intel i7-3612QM CPU which has an idle temperature of around 65 degree celsius. Due to this the laptops fan is too loud. What can cause such a high temperature in idle?
When i look at the output of powertop i can see that all cores are operating between 2.9GHz and 3.1GHz while the CPU can run from 2.1GHz to 3.1GHz. Why is it operating at nearly maximum frequency in idle times (top shows 99% idle)? Could this be the cause of the high temperature of the CPU? Who decides to clock the CPU this high? Can i change that?
Im running openSUSE 12.3 x64 with kernel 3.10.0-1.g3dcd746-desktop.
Thank you for any help.
