So please correct me if I am wrong but Intel gpu drivers are in the kernel correct? My next laptop I am going to get here in the next month or two has a Intel HD 5200 Iris Pro and I was wondering since this GPU is newer then openSuse 12.3 KDE will that release support that gpu? Thanks guys for any info.
Yes built in
And that is a good question. I suspect the older driver will work ok but that is a guess
Okay well how hard would it be to update the Linux Kernel if needed? It’s Linux so I assume possible but would I have to worry about breakages?
Newer kernels are not all that hard but you should stuck to the stable ones unless you know what you are doing.
You could also go some googling and see which kernel supports that chip.
according to this you should be good

We are running Linux Kernel 3.7 on 12.3 correct? I could be wrong but it looks like kernel 3.8 is the first one to support the Iris pro 5200. Well if I get this before 13.1 comes out I might have to upgrade the kernel to 3.8 at least and even then I was reading the driver in 3.8 is still not the best work and will get better with future Linux Kernel releases.
I have a CLEVO W740SU, (galago Utrapro or Mountain light 144G (in spain)).

I have installed opensuse 12.3. I can say you that you need to update kernel to de most stable version, and it is not suficient too. Now i have installed kernel 3.11.5-1.ga012288-desktop. Intel iris pro 5200 still has not good support by kernel. But after that it works, But Some aspects of graphics card are not going well. Effects of KDE. Passing dark screen to activity, gamma manage, ect. Before update kernel you can not change brightness, for example. Wiffi needs kernel update too. You need to connect you laptop to internet directly and update. Special keyboard keys do not work all.
