Intel Graphics

I am currently running openSUSE 13.2 and am considering upgrading/switching to Tumbleweed instead because I prefer the newer packages that it offers. I see there’s a warning on the wiki about proprietary graphics drivers, but there is no info about Intel drivers, so I was wondering if anyone had any information on that. I don’t want to switch only to get stuck with a non-working graphics driver due to a kernel upgrade. I’ve got a Lenovo G500 laptop with an Intel Core i3 processor and integrated graphics.

The information from lspci is this:

VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller [8086:0166] (rev 09)
        Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:3977]
        Kernel driver in use: i915
        Kernel modules: i915

Hi
I have the same device in this DELL Inspiron 3521;

VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller [8086:0166] (rev 09)
    Subsystem: Dell Device [1028:0597]
    Kernel driver in use: i915
    Kernel modules: i915

I’m not however running Tumbleweed on this one (SLED 12), I have a HP ProBook 4440s with an intel GPU;

VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0106] (rev 09)
    Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:17f3]
    Kernel driver in use: i915
    Kernel modules: i915

I’ve had no issues with Tumbleweed with this system and it’s an older intel GPU, would not expect you to have any issues.

You should have no trouble at all
