It’s a custom file that you add in /etc/modprobe.d/ directory, and it should work the same way. However, I specifically wanted you to try unloading and reloading the module manually, then after restarting NM, see if you can get a working connection

No, the configuration file will work to load the driver with the required options as it does in Mint. The problem you have be completely unrelated to that. It could be a driver bug (related to the kernel version perhaps) or some other issue.
