Intel 4965 Woes

Have read all the solutions to get up and running and I still do not get my wireless to work. Have been down this road before with Fedora, but they seemed to have it solved with version 9.

I I have tried to install the drivers using from susegeeks.com:

compat-wireless-2008-07-01.tar.bz2

But the file will not “make” and I have all the required packages (gcc etc).

Has anyone had success with this package?

I used that one for my 4965, but the driver worked even worse. And it
was the same driver version as in the newest kernel package.

Problems I have:

  • wireless does never turn on when switched off upon boot
  • LED is not working.
  • wireless A (5GHz) APs can be seen but no connection possible (even
    w/o WEP/WPA)
  • knetworkmanager crashes all the time upon connecting.
  • sometimes connection to an AP is not possible. quitting
knetworkmanager, rcnetwork stop; rmmod iwl4965; modprobe 4965; rcnetwork
    start; starting knetworkmanager helps (sometimes).
  • wireless can be stuck so that no connection is possible - only reboot
    helps here.
  • still more woes…

What to say: wireless was working quite well in 10.3. I think most of
the problems a dedicated to the new knetworkmanager. Where can I get the
old one back???

This really is a pain. As I said in fedora 9 it works immediately but I have to use this distro to enable disk encryption. At least I will bag trying to compile that set of files. I see that there is a sub-forum (no surprise) on this so I will move myself over there.
