I just finished installing 11.1 on my Thinkpad R61. Took a few hours of downloading to get all downloads and updates. I don’t want to wait so long to do a few more PCs I have. Is there a way to do a “slipstream” install media like they do with Windows? Maybe using the build service?
Thanks!
You need to be a little clearer. Are we talking like a bunch of the same R61’s?
You could use the Yast autoinstallation module to clone your currently updated install:
YaST/Modules/Autoinstallation - openSUSE
If you want to install each machine fresh, another option is available, though it is a little more limited in scope. If you are running KDE, and wish to have the latest stable version (4.2.4), you could install the “opensuse-11.1-KDE4-Reloaded-LiveCD” located at Index of /repositories/KDE:/Medias/images/iso. In addition to the updated KDE version, a number of system updates have been integrated into the CD.
Sounds to me that the YaST module would be the best way to go for your use though.
Thanks! yeah, the KDE ISO was good enough for me. In the future I will do a local repo. I just don’t want each machine to go to the web for 2 hours after a fresh install.
