Installing Verbatim Store n save

JUst got myself a Verbatim Store ‘n’ save external drive for backups and cannot find any instructions to install it it on my suse box - Can anyone help me out?

Should not need any “installation” just pug in. It should be shown in notification that a USB device connected. Note that none of the built in software will work on Linux. Also note that there has been some reports that some USB 3 ports do not work right so try a USB 2 port if the 3 port does not work.

WEll done G spot on reply… now do I have to format the drive or anything now I can ‘see’ it?

No if you don’t mind the format that came on it. FAT or NTFS probably. If you want a Linux file system I’d recommend that if you plan on it being a pure Linux backup. You don’t have to deal with special files to preserve Linux permissions. You can just copy or rsync the files to the drive. If MS format you must tar the files to preserve Linux structures. To foramt it just go to Yast - partitioner select the drive create partition(s) set the format. Note take care you select the correct drive to reformat, don’t want to format your data. You can create partitions then format to what you want. ext2 or 4 would be ok for backup Note that Windows will not read Linux formatted partitions as a general rule. So you if you select a Linux file system it can not be used on a Windows OS.

All depends on what you want.

Thanks G! Its an opensuse box so think I’ll go ext2.
