ok, just trying to pre-install linux on an old laptop so that i can learn to use it before we install it in our office. but i am having trouble (imagine that!). i am using linuxSUSE 10.2 because the laptop has no dvd drive and i don’t own 500 floppys…
so, my problem is that i deleted windows98 from the laptop (i know, deleting is really bad, but i hate windows and just wanted to do it!) and then tried to boot with the cds…just to find out that the laptop doesn’t boot from the cd. so i thought i would just get a dos6.22 disk running and use that. disk works fine, but now the system either recognizes the floppy or the hard drive…but never both at the same time. in bios (bad bios!) there is only the option to boot with the hard drive or the floppy and there is not mixing of the two.
my questions: how can i boot from a dos disk and install linux? or is that even possible? what do i need to access on the cd to get any information? i am used to .exe and .coms and stuff, so i don’t recognize the endings of the linux cds…
any and all help would be nice! thx in advance!
