I’m installing the Realtek sound drivers per instruction. This on an Assus
motherboard with kernel 2.6.27.7-9. When I run the make there is an error returned.
/usr/src/linux-2.6.27.7-9/scripts/Makefile.build:46: *** CFLAGS was changed in
“/home/larry/new_apps/Audio/alsa-driver-1.0.14rc3-4.06x/acore/Makefile”. Fix it
to use EXTRA_CFLAGS. Stop.
make[3]: *** [/home/larry/new_apps/Audio/alsa-driver-1.0.14rc3-4.06x/acore] Error 2
make[2]: *** [module/home/larry/new_apps/Audio/alsa-driver-1.0.14rc3-4.06x]
Error 2
make[1]: *** [sub-make] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6.27.7-9’
make: *** [compile] Error 2
In the make.build file I’ve found, EXTRA FLAGS :=, but I haven’t got a clue as
to what to enter.
Another problem the next step is to edit the /etc/modules.conf, it doesn’t exist
… The only one I can find is /usr/src, doesn’t appear to be a good candidate.
I can’t help with your Realtek compile problem. But if you give up on the Realtek approach, you can find guidance and links to rpms for 1.0.19 of alsa here for supported versions of openSUSE: Alsa-update - openSUSE
Note when updating to the rpms for 1.0.19 of alsa, you must send 6 zypper commands.
Second question the /etc/modules.conf file that doesn’t seem to exist. The
instructions say I need to modify it for the sound sound controller.
The link should solve the compile problem from the quick look I did.
Thanks,
Larry

openSUSE uses /etc/modprobe.d/sound for sound module options and /etc/sysconfig/kernel => MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT for modules which do not load automatically.

akoellh, Thanks for the info. Unfortunately the sound drivers are on
hold till I make room on the root drive, I’ve got 0 now.
