So I have an installed version of Linux Mint 13 on my hard drive. I wish to replace that with openSUSE 12.2 KDE. I have herd that i can not use the default installation and partitioning if I already have a Linux system on my Hard Drive. Something about the boot loader or so. Im no expert and am looking for the easiest way to get openSUSE up and running. Is there anything I should do different if I already have a distro on my drive? Or can I just use the default settings for the partitions ect…?
Thanks in advance.
So, when you install openSUSE with an existing system, it tries to create a new place for itself, by shrinking existing partitions and not normally removing anything. I do not know if there is anything you wish to keep, but imagine you could download a KDE (or Gnome) LiveCD and burn it to disk. You boot from this disk and load the normal live session and not installing openSUSE just yet. Then, you use the YaST Partitioner to remove all partitions that belong to Mint. Once complete, you could then go back with your (boot from) DVD or just use the LiveCD you have to install openSUSE 12.2 as normal, taking its default settings.
Thank You,
