installing opensuse on external harddrive

I’m a newbie to linux and i’d like to know if i can install opensuse on my external harddrive so i can boot it to any computer. If so, do i need to partition the external hard drive?

Will the external hard drive always be attached, or are you doing this because you want to be able to “remove” Opensuse easily (by simply unplugging the external drive) if you don’t like it?

(Edited:) OK, I missed the part about, “boot to any computer.” I wouldn’t recommend that, because each computer is different.

If you just want to test Opensuse to see what it’s like, try the Opensuse Live CD. It’s slow (obviously), but you can see if it’ll suit you.

One other thought: one of the True Propeller Heads™ here might know of a way to make the equivalent of a Suse Live CD out of an external hard drive. That might be what you’re looking for.
