I have a problem with installing OpenSUSE 11.3 on my server Compaq ML370 G3.
4 gb memory
and 6 drives, all at 36,4Gb(scsi)
On the server it is the Compaq Smart Array 532 controller.
When i install from the DVD, after i choose the default keyboard, the an error comes up, and it is restarting the installation process.
When i use liveCD i can get to the desktop, but then evrything hangs.
I have tryed the SLES 11 SP1 and i think and as I recall i can perhaps manually the drivers to the installation.
But my main question is, Is there a way to add the controller drivers in the installation prosess of OpenSUSE 11.3?
I`ve found some Linux drivers
posted in this link at HP driver
Wich is supported on the following list, This driver is from 2008
Microsoft Windows 2000,
Microsoft Windows Server 2003,
Novell NetWare 5.1,
Novell NetWare 6.5,
OS Independent,
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 2.1 (x86),
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 (x86),
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (x86),
Red Hat Linux 7.2,
Red Hat Linux 7.3,
Red Hat Linux 8.0, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 7,
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 8,
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 (x86)
Perhaps I can not use the RAID controller card but then the remaining idea would be to use the software raid configuration.
On the liveCD side, is there any chance this is also a graphic issue ? I think that PC has an Integrated ATI Rage XL Video Controller with 8MB SDRAM Video Memory ?
In which case, its possible either the radeon and/or radeonhd graphic drivers will not handle this, and you may need to specify ‘nomodeset’ as a boot code, or alternatively you may need to boot to the VESA driver (and for the liveCD specify as such as a boot selection) ? [until you can specify the rage driver]
Thanks for the help guys, yes there is also a issue with the graphics driver.
This is a much as I have done yet.
When I used 3 disk for one and 3 disk for another raid, nothing seem to be working and I had very much problems to get Suse to find the disks.
Then I made one array with alle 6 disks, in RAID5, suddenly it worked…
Guess I learned something new that day
Yesterday, I managed to install Suse using the text mode and kernel mode ACPI-Off
Then the main problem was to logon. I am gonna try more today when I got home to try to logon.
And thanks “oldcpu” I am going to try another graphics card as well.
Perhaps I can install it using graphics mode.
