Hi,
I am using OpenSUSE 11.0 (with KDE3) and i am unable to play any video format(like avi, wmv, vob, divx etc).
so i tried installing MPlayer rpm but it showed a long list of dependencies… 
please help, how can i install MPlayer without dependencies ???
Mplayer can be installed via yast - package management. It will solve the dependencies for you. Just eneble packman repo and possibly others present on the opensuse site.For an offline install, doctorjohn2 prepared a selection of packages including mplayer and dependencies. Search this site against doctorjhon2

i have tried that too, but still i am getting the problem ‘failed dependency’… 
is there any command for installation without dependency check…(i searched for command in terminal hepl but couldnt found one)…??

Yes there is, but this is a REALLY bad idea. Typically when there is an application installation failure because of a dependency check, it has failed for a good reason, and it should NOT be forced.
IMHO you should brush up on your openSUSE concepts and read here:
Concepts - openSUSE
then after doing that, you should properly setup your software repositories (file servers with applications) to support the installation of multimedia (and other software). I recommend you limit your setup to 4 and ONLY 4 repositories (repos). Specifically setup your software package manger for only OSS, NON-OSS, Update and Packman. Only those 4. No others. If you have added others, remove them. There is guidance on adding these 4 repos here:

Again, ONLY those 4. (OSS, NON-OSS, Update, Packman). No others. None!
Once that is done, you can easily add various media players with YaST > Software > Software Management. I do recommend you remove xine-lib (packaged by Novell/SuSE-GmbH). And then install libxine1. Also install smplayer, xine-ui, vlc, w32codec-all.
Make certain your libffmpeg0 (that you install) is the one packaged by Packman and NOT by videolan. Do not include videolan in your software repositories as that simply causes newbies (and some experienced Linux users) no end of problems.
And as already noted, if you have a dependency error, either copy and paste the error here, or do a screen dump, and post the image to one of the free image hosting sites (and post the URL here). Then one of the users monitoring this thread can provide you a solution how to solve the dependency problem.
