Installing Linux from Hard Drive

Hello all !

I have OpenSuSE 11.2 installed, I want to install fedora 16 on OpenSuse 11.2.

I created a directory /FedoraSetup. Where is the .iso file resodes. Also, I have extracted there; initrd.img, image firectory and vmlinuz.

I have appended the following to the menu.lst file :

title Install Fedora Linux
root (hd0,4)
kernel /FedoraSetup/vmlinuz
initrd kernel /FedoraSetup/initrd.img
boot

But, I can not boot from this file !!! Can you please help me ?

I’m not aware that this is even an option

Don’t you have a CD/DVD drive or USB booting?

As far as grub is concerned, it only sees a kernel and an initrd. There is
no root device, I doubt it can work.

What does grub say?

There was a wiki page that listed several methods to install without them.
