Installing Leap-15.3 on Dell Inspiron 3501 dual booting Windows 10 installed on UEFI system.

Hi Mrmazda,

Thanks for the reply. At what stage should this command be given? After dual booting Leap-15.3? How will it affect Windows system partitions? Kindly clarify.

Fast boot is default on in Windows. You must turn it off in Windows. Think option is somewhere in power setting maybe??? When on Windows partitions are unaccessible from Linux

Hi,
Thanks & Regards,

At what stage of what?

efibootmgr

simply reports what entries the firmware contains.

efibootmgr -v

adds detail to the report.

man efibootmgr

provides opportunity to see what else it can be used for.

How will it affect Windows system partitions?
It doesn’t affect any partitions. It’s for viewing or modifying boot entries in UEFI firmware, e.g. when you wish to change which OS’s entry functions automatically as POST completes (boot priority aka whose bootloader runs).

Hi All,

Success!
And I thank all who contributed so very sincerely to this effort: Malcolmlewis, Nickert, Susejunky, Marmazda and Gogalthorp.

Performed the following steps as advised by most of you:

  1. Entered BIOS by pressing F2 at boot. Set SATA boot to AHCI. After exiting BIOS, inserted the pre-prepared USB flash drive installation media, downloaded from link provided by the vender Dell India. During reboot pressed F12 and booted from the USB Flash. While installing, wiped out the previous install completely. Rest of the installation was uneventful.
  2. After installation, booted the Windows and shrunk the C drive to make room for ‘/’ and ‘swap’ (about 170 GB). Performed the necessary configuration for windows.
  3. Rebooted and installed Leap-15.3 from a USB drive again. SSD drive was visible during partitioning and created partitions for ‘/’ and ‘swap’ on the SSD drive and ‘/home’ on the HDD, where 300 GB space was available. Mounted Windows EFI partition on ‘/boo/efi’. The rest of the installation was as usual.
On rebooting, ‘Grub 2 efi’ showed both the OS. Booted into Leap first and after setting the Desktop etc, rebooted into Windows without any problem.

Once again I thank you all for the guidance provided to me.

Lots of Regards,
