Installing Java Runtime and enable in Firefox -Suse 11.2

Hi,

I have tried to install and enable java, follow the instructions of this link: “http://www.java.com/en/download/help/5000010500.xml#100” when I try to enable de java, for firefox, I can’t linked de java with the browser, because I can’t find de folder “plugins” on the path → /lib/usr/lib/firefox).

Someone can help me to enable java on firefox ?
There is another way to install java and enable?

Thanks in advance.

Fredy

Java should already be installed.

In the browser type:

about:plugins

what does it show

Hi,

I only see "The IcedTea Java Web Browser Plugin 1.6 (suse-5.9.4-i386), but I neet to run the version from “sun systems”, when I check “http://www.java.com/es/download/installed.jsp” it tells me that is not installed.

Using repositories I installed de control panel Sun Java plug in 16.0.u17, Can I use it to enable with firefox?

Fredy

Go to Yast Software Management

Make sure you have these:

java-1_5_0-gcj-compat-1.5.0.0-107.109.2.i586
java-1_6_0-sun-plugin-1.6.0.u17-1.1.1.i586
java-1_6_0-sun-1.6.0.u17-1.1.1.i586

Remove the IcedTea Java Web Browser Plugin

Yep It Works!! Now is running.

I have a little dude, I do two steps, What is the correct solution to get it works?

Doing both things? or only doing your last post?

Fredy

When installing packages its normally practice to open up YAST in openSUSE, instead of going from site A, B C, X, Y, Z to hunt for software.
A friend of mine is going to do a full series on openSUSE 11.2 on installing software and stuff soon so maybe I will post it when he is done.

“I have a little dude, I do two steps,”

Is this some kind of code?lol! Explain what you mean…

Sorry I am not so good with english!!
:’(

Well, taralkeda answer my question.

but… I was trying to know, what was the better way to get works java.
Using Yast or manually.

PD: Taralkeda the project seems very useful, tell us when it happens.

Regars,
Fredy

You shouldn’t need to install anything manually. Use YaST - Software Management
Occasionally you might need to add a repository to get access to more applications (Eg; Multi-media)
Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide - openSUSE Forums

do these and off you go… thanks m8

For xangoch and caf4926 – THANKS!
I recently had java plugin problems after updating to Firefox 3.6

Using YaST to un-install the existing versions, and install the Sun versions noted below, fixed this.
