Installing in Asus EEE PC 20G

Hello to all,

I tried the new version of OpenSuse 11.2 on my asus EEE PC 900 with the 20G (2SD one with 4Gb and 2nd with 16G). In the live version everything is working perfectly. From sound to enabling/disabling the wireless card from the Fn shortcut. I want to install it and I have managed to install it using the default settings provided bu the partitioner of opensuse. However due to the luck of space I want to use my own partitions. The way I had the partiotions on kubundu 9.10(the prev system instaled) was:

4Gb SD card is used as “/”

From the 16Gb SD card I had 1,2Gb as “/var”, 300MB as “/tmp” and 14G as “/home”

When I use the exact above configuration I get an error while copying root Filesystem and at 87% I get an error from YaST2 saying

“Error
Copying the live image to hard disk failed.”

Can somebody give me any hint of whats going wrong. I have used 2 cds with the Live version and with one of them I’ve installed it on my PC so there is no problems with the cds. I think that there is an error the way I use the partitions. I tried using 1Gb in “/tmp” and tried to had 3Gb of “/usr” with the same error at the same point.

After a lot of tries I start to understand what seems to be the problem. It seems that the installation fails when I try to use the smaller SD as a mount point. I think that grub cannot be installed and thats the problem.

Not likely. I have the same problem. First I did an install such that the smaller SD had / and /boot and the larger /home and everything went fine. Only after trying to do the same as you and moving /tmp and /var to separate partitions on the larger SD the problem popped up.

Oh, the problem seems to be fixed…no updated live images available though. For details, see here [Novell bugzilla].

the EEE PC is just like any other PC and you can now get it with windows instead of linux. So install what software you want if it meets the system requirements.

The harddrive is basically there for the operating system, it has an SD card slot and you can buy a 16gb SD card for around 100.00 max. So if you get the EEE pc with the 4gb hard drive that would bring it to 20gb of space.
