I just checked and mutter-3.4.1 from openSUSE 12.2 DOES provide libmutter.so.0, so if that didn’t get upgraded it would explain everything.

And another problem also solved thanks to the installation of GNOME.
I used to install virtualbox here:
But I could never open it(VBoxGtk) on KDE.
Now it runs well on both KDE and GNOME!
You shouldn’t use vboxgtk. It doesn’t really work with current versions of VirtualBox anymore. (you can’t create a new VM f.e. AFAIR)
Just use the Qt interface even in GNOME. (package “virtualbox-qt”)
That’s the official GUI anyway.
