Installing GNOME on openSUSE 12.3 with installed KDE4 desktop

Well, maybe you had an older mutter package installed as a left-over from an older distribution, or something like that?
That would have satisfied that dependency, but wouldn’t work with the newer gnome-shell…

I just checked and mutter-3.4.1 from openSUSE 12.2 DOES provide libmutter.so.0, so if that didn’t get upgraded it would explain everything.
Please post the output of:

rpm -qi mutter

And another problem also solved thanks to the installation of GNOME.

I used to install virtualbox here:

software.opensuse.org:

But I could never open it(VBoxGtk) on KDE.
Now it runs well on both KDE and GNOME!

You shouldn’t use vboxgtk. It doesn’t really work with current versions of VirtualBox anymore. (you can’t create a new VM f.e. AFAIR)
Just use the Qt interface even in GNOME. (package “virtualbox-qt”)
That’s the official GUI anyway.
