Installing from multiple CDs?

Hello.

I was wondering if it’s possible to install the latest OpenSUSE from multiple CDs rather than a DVD as our server only has a CD Drive? Any suggestions welcome.

Many thanks.
George.

The times that openSUSE was released also on multiple CDs is gone. But you can download a Live CD (choose either the KDE or Gnome version) and install from the running live CD. In the end you will have the same openSUSE (all software is available in the repositories and what is not on the CD will be downloaded during the installation or later when you want to add packages on the allready installed system).

its impossible to tell from your low info question, but if your
‘server’ is currently running some version of SUSE Linux Enterprise
Server (SLES), i would NOT recommend you try to ‘upgrade’ by installing
openSUSE…

openSUSE and SLES are two very different systems…personally, due to
its very short lifetime i would never recommend openSUSE on an
enterprise level server (like one so old it has only a CD drive)…

so, what operating system are you wanting to replace/upgrade?

if not sure what you have try this:

cat /etc/SuSE-release

dd

Do a net install, or pick up an inexpensive DVD-ROM drive. They can be
had very inexpensively these days. You can also convert the DVD ISO
to run from a USB stick of sufficient size and install from there.

Or from a directory in the hard disk.
