And where did you get that package from? Did you compile from source? (I can’t find that for openSUSE anywhere)

You need a desktop file in /usr/share/xsessions for a wm to show up.
If there’s none included in the ctwm package, you could f.e. use /usr/share/xsessions/twm.desktop as template.

Btw, kdm already includes a /usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm/sessions/ctwm.desktop, so I guess with kdm it should work out of the box…

Does it make a entry like this in xessions folder ?

$ls -l /usr/share/xsessions
total 20
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 207 Feb 19 19:12 gnome.desktop
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 172 Feb 1 21:53 icewm.desktop
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 165 Feb 1 21:19 openbox.desktop
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2656 Mar 7 13:57 razor.desktop
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 129 Feb 1 23:00 twm.desktop

humm
i just forgot to put a :ctwmrc file in my $HOME folder,
in fact there was no file named .ctwmrc nowhere, just a system.ctwmrc in /etc/X11/ctwm created at install
thanks again looks like working
like in the good old unix days
i want to create a minimalist setup for numeric computing (finite element)
