I have a little problem which may not be directly linked to openSuse but perhaps somebody can help me.
I’ve got a used and already set up Fritz!Box Fon WLAN 7170 and I tried to install it with the custom programm provided by openSuse. As I haven’t got the password I obiously was unable to complete the instalation. I tried the 16-number-key on the bottom of the router as well as the word “admin” which was suggested in some internet forum but all without success. Even worse, I didn’t find the reset-button on my Fritz!Box.
To make a long story short: Can anybody give me some advises how to install the box?
The setup page of your fritzbox will probably be on http://fritz.box or 192.168.178.1 (as I recall in default without any password).
If you need to setup anything in your openSUSE system you will need the openSUSE passwords - but probably you do not need to setup anything at first.
For a wireless access to your fritz!box and so to the internet without a cable you will need the wireless passsword - which is the one on the bottom of the box by default and can be changed by you in the fritzbox-settings (see 2).
For doing this it is best not to use the YaST but the userspace programs networkmanager and the according GNOME/KDE programs that you will find in the panel (in GNOME 3 it looks now a bit like a loudspeaker symbol - ca. an 1/8 of four concentric circles and a point). Maybe you will also need a password for your Keyring (probably you could chose one or it is your user’s login keyword…)
P. P. S.:
Maybe needed especially if you have anything changed in the network settings in YaST:
open YaST (root password needed) > Network Devices / Network Settings: Tab: “Global” tab - select= “User Controlled with NetworkManager” to reactivate the NetworkManager and the connected GNOME/KDE program.
Thanks for the info, it was helpful and dead easy to access the box in order to adjust some configurations such as WLAN or USB-devices.
There was just one problem (OK, I know it’s an openSUSE and not Fritz!Box forum), the box suggested me a lot of German internet providers and although I chose the option “others”, as I am in Brazil and using DSL-provider “Speedy” of Telefonica, the Fritz!Box was unable to establish a connection. Any idea what it might be???
