not really sure why, i get this. Can someone please help me out?
more info:
CPU: i3-2130
gpu: nvidia 8500gt (yeah its an old one… well used too)
ram: ddr3 1600mhz
mainboard: P67A-ud3r-b3
running only 1 hdd 320 gb 7200 rpm
With F3 on the welcome screen you can switch the installer to vesa or
even text mode (this has no negative influence on what you install it is
just that the installer runs in a different mode).
After you installed it can happen that you see a garbled screen. Report
back that we can tell you how to repair that by installing the
proprietary nvidia driver.

PC: oS 11.4 (dual boot 12.1) 64 bit | Intel Core i7-2600@3.40GHz | KDE
4.6.0 | GeForce GT 420 | 16GB Ram
Eee PC 1201n: oS 11.4 64 bit | Intel Atom 330@1.60GHz | KDE 4.7.3 |
nVidia ION | 3GB Ram
When the install finishes and it does a partial reboot, you may (like me) end up with nothing or some screwed up mess. Just leave it 10mins then do a forced reboot. And at the boot menu choose failsafe option. Then install the nVidia driver
Sorry, I forgot to ask you if you ran the check installation media to
ensure you have no corrupt installer.

Thanks for the quick reply guys.
I tried checking the installation media, but the same thing happens.
I decided to change the video mode to vesa, and go for the install… it has been sitting on a black screen which says creating device nodes with udev for about 20 mins now.
so my gpu is on the way out is it? how is this for a replacement MSY Online
No it should not… i cant believe i just noticed that! Fairly sure i want reading it because i just assumed it would be mostly gibberish… ironic how it was actually gibberish. (hoping that was the correct use of the term ironic)
I would look at a thorough hardware check, particularly include the RAM
The SUSE DVD has memtest option, let it run 24hrs
But of course you may need a new graphics card to do that in the first place

If you have one try a different graphics card (maybe you have one on
board?) just to see if it is that or something else which causes the
trouble.

Double posting since i cant seem to locate the edit button,
I have got the new GPU installed and it seems to be running well. I no longer get that screen glitch and no more random characters in the bios.
and wow, my last gpu must have been running really hot! i found a partially melted rubber band under the heat sync…
