When I boot into the Leap 15 installer and get to the first graphical interface screen, I cannot move the mouse pointer at all. Both the touchpad and the trackpoint on my ThinPad 450s seem to do nothing. Both devices work fine with my existing Leap 42.3 system booted - it’s just the Leap 15 installer that seems to have a problem. I haven’t had this problem with previous upgrades/installations.
Obviously I could go and borrow a USB mouse from someone (and probably will) but I’d like know why this is failing. Is there some kernel module that should be loaded that isn’t being?
Some further information after a bit of experimenting: The same problem exists with the current Tumbleweed installer (snapshot 20180530). However, with previous Leap 42.3 installer, both touchpad and trackpoint are working as normal. Some kind of installer regression perhaps.
It’s probably a kernel regression, and would need a bug report raised to resolve it. You could try checking with a live distro. That would eliminate the installer as such. For example Leap 15…
Tried the KDE live distro - no problem. Touchpad and trackpoint working as expected. So it certainly looks like an installer-specific bug.
I’ll raise a bug report if I can find the right place to do so…
